💉 Pump Day!

I got my pump today! After an unexpected sojourn in hospital a couple of weeks earlier the day finally arrived and I went to meet my DSN, the Tandem trainer and the BSL interpreter at the local Primary Care Centre.

Just a quick note here to thank my DSN Leigh for arranging the 1 on 1 session with the trainer and interpreter. Everything was perfectly clear and understandable. The pace was perfect, and there were no distractions during the training. Thanks, Leigh! 😊

I got the t:Slim X2. I’m aware the Mobi has just come out, but the X2 is tried and tested with no teething problems.

I was shown how to set up the Libre 3+ sensor (I previously used the Libre 2+) and was taken by how much smaller it is than the 2+. While it was initialising (about an hour) I was shown how to fill a cartridge with insulin from a 10ml vial using the syringe that comes in the kit, and register the cartridge in the pump.

Next I learned how to connect the infusion set to the pump and fill the tubing until a couple of drops came from the cannula. Then we installed the Airsoft infusion set. We set a site reminder for 2 days initially as I was back at work the day after that and didn’t want to be messing around with it then.

That was it, really. We set up a default profile and insulin delivery started just after the sensor had finished setting up. My BG was high because of the temporary meds I’m on, but I promised to sit on my hands and not interfere with ControlIQ until the pump had bedded in a bit.
